YOGA THERAPY

Yoga Therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups.
Colleen’s sessions combine aspects of all of her trainings to date, to offer you a profound unique experience. Colleen applies the same principles whether you are coming to her for some tips in your weekly group vinyasa class, or you are seeing her for a specific issue.
She works with the individual to re-find balance and harmony in the physical body, and mind. Specific issues are addressed. The teachings are adapted to your needs, which ultimately helps to create balance in your overall life.
Colleen offers private sessions for up to three students.

A Session May Include: physical yoga postures and movements similar to physical therapy to rehabilitate and re-pattern specific muscles, introduction to new thought patterns, meditation, and personal affirmations. Pranayama (breath-exercises), and mindfulness, are part of every session. The relaxation technique of Reiki will be worked into most sessions. The client’s Ayurvedic (Ayurveda is the ancient Indian science of health and well being) constitution is considered in the treatments, to help an individual to achieve a greater sense of mental, emotional and physical health.
If you are new to yoga, it is recommended to start with private lessons before diving into group classes. How you practice the poses in the beginning when you are learning asanans (postures), forms your foundation, and a strong foundation comes from doing the postures in alignment. In a group class you may not be able to receive the attention you need to learn the postures properly. If you have an intermediate to advance practice, you can fine tune your alignment and learn advanced posture variations. Or simply pamper yourself with a gentle or restorative session. Reiki is included with all restorative sessions.

Healing your body and mind takes a commitment, and YOU play a large part in your yoga healing. You will be given practices that have been chosen specifically for you to do that will take a total of 5 to 15 minutes (based on your time allowance) 4 to 6 days a week. Plan on one to two Yoga Therapy sessions a week for 4 to 8 weeks.
