-Core Exercise Class For Golfers - Toning and Stretching To Improve Your Game
Strengthening your core can increase your swing; taking strokes off your game - every golfers dream. When you engage your core you are able to use your full body strength to swing the club. The more body awareness you develop, the stronger your core, the more flexible your arms, shoulders and legs, the better your game! A strong core can help you to keep your spine in neutral during your swing, preventing over arching in your low back (hyperlordosis). When you learn to keep your back in neutral you can alleviate low/middle back pain. Abdominal and back strength are essential for keeping a neutral spine. In this class we will focus on strengthening the abdominal muscles, the back body, the arms, and shoulders. We will stretch the neck, shoulders, arms, legs, groin and buttocks muscles. All stretches and exercises will be beneficial to improving the golfers game. Non- golfers are welcome in this toning class. Eight week series - This was offered winter of 2010. We hope to offer it again either in the fall, or the following winter, please let us know of your interest so that we may keep you undated.
- Foundations Hatha/Flow Yoga -
The basis of a strong yoga posture is understanding the posture from the feet up, it can give you a feeling of solidity you have never experienced before. To help expand your posture knowledge, each week we will focus on one of 6 categories: standing postures, forward bends, back bends, twists, hips, arms/core. We begin with breath focus, and ease into a properly balanced asana practice. Close attention is paid to alignment suitable for your body. The level 2 class offers more challenging theme based sequences as well as a faster pace. Recommended for those with asthma, anxiety, depression, stress, and also as prenatal yoga.
- Gentle Yoga -
Yoga is beneficial for every body. Whether you have movement restrictions or full mobility this class is sure to provide what your body and mind need to become a more balanced you. Decompress from your busy-ness, and get in touch with yourself. The experience begins with a breath practice and short meditation, smoothly transitioning to light stretching and gentle yoga movements. You will leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Appropriate for all levels. Recommended for those with anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, stress, and also as prenatal yoga.
- Happy Hour - Core Strengthening
Core strength is essential for proper body alignment and posture. Colleen designed this class to increase core strength, to tone your body and to strengthen muscles that support your yoga practice, and your daily life. Develop an even greater level of body awareness and solidity, and feel more confident about your body.
- Immersion Yoga -
This class is for those looking to go deeper within yoga. We will start with ISHTA Meditation (a meditation taught where I did my teacher training with in NY). There are many steps to this meditation: including asanas (postures) to open the body to prepare it to sit, pranayama breath-exercise practice to begin to purify the mind, kriya (cleansing technique) to direct attention to the spine, a few other processes are involved, and then we will sit in silence and stillness for several minutes (traditionally taught for 18 minutes, we will start between 5 to 10 minutes, and may increase from there). We will then practice mindful asanas in a gentle fashion, explore mantra (a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that are considered capable of creating transformation), and an extended yoga nidra (yogic sleep, a state of conscious deep sleep for extreme relaxation and subtler spiritual exploration). Recommended for those with anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, stress, and also as prenatal yoga.
- Journey Through The Chakras -
Each week we will spend approximately 10 minutes on each of the seven main chakras. Starting with chakra 1 and moving up the spine to chakra 7, using asanas (postures), specific movements, intentions and breaths we will open and bring balance to the seven major energy centers in the body. Because of the special format of this class, there will be some weekly repetition. Recommended for those with an interest in the subtle energy in the body, and those with anxiety, asthma, back pain, depression, and stress.
- Lotus Yoga (Chakra Yoga) -
Each week one of the seven main chakras will be the focus of this Hatha/Flow class. You will experience a balanced yoga practice with attention on postures, aromatherapy, colors, sounds, visualizations, and breath exercises that help bring balance to that particular energy center. Posture variations will be offered so you can practice at your own level. For those of you feeling enthusiastic, join me in wearing the color pertaining to the intended chakra. Chakra colors are listed below. 7-week continuous cycle. Recommended for those with anxiety, asthma, back pain, depression, and stress.

- Yoga For Wellness (Restorative Yoga) -
This class focuses on our natural well being. It begins with a breath focus, very light stretching, and then transitions into a restorative yoga practice. Using yoga props, you relax into postures for prolonged periods of time. With the props supporting the body, the body is able to relax on a deeper level. The stillness of the posture allows your body to rejuvenate, your nervous system to calm, and your whole being to feel peace, which is your natural state. With your mind and body relaxed, and your consciousness remaining alert, you are naturally guided towards health and well being. You feel refreshed and renewed as your body and soul begin to awaken. Pranayama, breath-exercise, is integrated throughout.
